How to Install Teleflex CH2100P Marine Engine Controls for Side Mounting
Teleflex CH2100P is a marine engine control that can be mounted on the side of the boat. It allows you to control the throttle and gear of your engine with a single lever. It also has a trim switch, an interlock function, and an optional neutral safety switch. In this article, we will show you how to install the Teleflex CH2100P marine engine control using the installation instructions manual[^1^].
Preparations
Before starting the installation, please read the instruction manual carefully and make sure you have all the necessary tools and parts. You will need:
A drill with a 4 mm bit
A saw or a cutter
A screwdriver
Four self-tapping screws
A cable clamp
A neutral safety switch (optional)
A DS-unit (optional)
When deciding on the best position for the control, keep the control lever movements in mind. Ensure full throttle movement without obstruction at the position chosen before the hole is cut. Also check that space required for installation is sufficient.
Using the mechanism
The mechanism of the Teleflex CH2100P has two levers: a throttle lever and a gear lever. The throttle lever controls the speed of the engine, while the gear lever controls the forward and reverse direction. The mechanism also has a trim switch that allows you to adjust the angle of the propeller, and an interlock function that prevents accidental shifting of gears.
The standard feature of the mechanism is pulling throttle function. This means that you have to pull the throttle lever towards you to increase the speed, and push it away from you to decrease it. This can be changed to pushing throttle function by following these steps:
Remove screw and washer (J&K fig. 2) from the instruction manual.
Lift off the throttle lever (H fig. 2) from the instruction manual.
Turn it 180Â and refit it on opposite side of shaft.
Refit screw and washer (J&K fig. 2) from the instruction manual.
Installing the control
To install the control, you have to cut a hole in the side of the boat and attach the mechanism with screws. You also have to connect the cables from the engine to the mechanism. Here are the steps to follow:
Mark the cut out area using the templates (enclosed page 17) from the instruction manual. Make sure the control is placed in the correct position.
Cut the hole and drill the holes for the attachment screws using a 4 mm drill.
Connecting the cables: Check that the lever movements are correct. Connect one end of each cable to its respective lever on
the mechanism using cable clamps. Connect
the other end of each cable to its respective
connection on
the engine according to
the engine manufacturerâs instructions.
Installation of cables: The minimum control cable bend radius is 200 mm. Sharper bends will increase cable wear rapidly. As
the throttle cable moves back and forth during operation, it must not be clamped too close to
the mechanism as this would prevent its motion.
The gear cable must be clamped as close as possible to
the mechanism as this will reduce backlash in
the system.
Mounting from inside: If you want to mount
the mechanism from inside
the boat, follow these steps:
Fit
the cover on
the mechanism by snapping
the tabs into lugs (B fig. 16) from
the instruction manual.
Fit
the lever on
the shaft by aligning
the flat sides.
Secure
the mechanism with
the 4 self-tapping screws supplied (Fig. 16) from
the instruction manual and remove
the lever.
Mounting from outside: If you want to mount
the mechanism from outside
the boat, follow these steps:
Controls without attachment plate: Fit
the cover on
the mechanism by snapping
